The Concierge – Chapter Thirty Five

The next morning Miguel is at school, staring out the window during his second period of the day, literature class. Someone, one of the students, is reading from a book. Today the students are practicing their reading and most of the class is yawning, while the teacher, Mrs McCarthy is sitting on her desk, hands clasped in her lap, eyes closed, listening to the reader. She only opens her eyes from time to time, to correct a pronunciation or look to see if anyone is indeed sleeping. Other times she would pause the reader and ask the class questions relating to the passage that had just been read, like what does it mean, what is the hidden message behind the words, reasons for actions performed in the passage and so on and so forth.
He finally stops his idle day dreaming when the bell rings signifying the end of the class. Next it is Mathematics, his least favourite subject, normally he wouldn’t mind sitting through the classes but as of lately he feels the need to be more adventurous, skip classes to do fun stuff but most of all he wanted to be with his new friend Ahmet. He really enjoyed their talks, he loved hearing about Ahmet’s past, sometimes he wished, his father had the time to talk to him about his past. What it was like growing up in Aguadilla, what he did during his childhood. He pouts a little as he thinks of all the stuff he is missing out on doing with his father because of his father’s busy schedule.
He stands up from his desk and walks out of class and over to his locker, to get his books for his next class. Standing at his locker, he goes through his books, searching for the ones he needs for the next class, a blinking message alert on his mobile screen catches his eye and he decides to open it.
‘Hey Buddy! How you doin? I ve closed my restaurant to do some renovation in the kitchen, so I found myself free- do you wanna hang out after school today?’
The text was from Ahmet, Miguel smiled at the opportunity to maybe learn how to drive. Meanwhile while Miguel was responding to Ahmet’s text message, a few classrooms away down the hall way someone else was receiving a text message of their own.
“It seems you have been quite pre occupied lately, ever since you sent me those naughty pics, you’re making it even harder…….to get to you.”
Alegra looks down at her phone ,as she reads the message she has just received from Salvatore. The truth of the matter was Alegra was a virgin, she worried that if Salvatore knew exactly how young a girl she was, all the nice stuff would stop. A man like him was used to being round grown women, and even though Alegra’s body felt and looked like a grown woman’s, her inexperience in intimacy would be proof of her tender age.
She didn’t want it to be awkward with Salvatore, she was genuinely starting to like him. As she stands by her locker, she thinks of what reply to send him.
“Sorry papi, its just that I was busy with school, you know the boring stuff, can I see you today?, I’ve missed you,” she presses send. She figures that if she is in front of him, he would be distracted by her attractiveness and it would be harder for him to ignore her inexperience than it would be to ignore her body.
“What about dinner at 8, id like to take you to my pent house…..i’m sure you would love it.”
Alegra’s eyes gleam with excitement,” OMG! He has a penthouse”, she says excitedly to herself. But meeting him at his pent house also meant that this would be the first time, they are together in a more intimate and closed space. As rebellious and wild as Alegra was, she was raised by stern devout Christians and one of the things her mother always advised her on was sex and promiscuity. Contrary to how she dressed and how people perceived her, Alegra was not as wild and loose as anyone would imagine.
“Yes, I would love to join you for dinner at your penthouse.” She presses the send button while she starts to envision what she would wear but more importantly – how the evening will play out.
